Genmaicha is a traditional variation of green tea that is known for its mild flavor and because it is an ideal tea following a meal that includes oily foods, such as tempura. The name genmaicha is derived from the Japanese word for brown rice, which is a whole-grain form of rice with the bran still in place around the rice grains. Oi Ocha—Genmaicha uses 100% Japanese rice along with green tea leaves, with the rice being hot-air roasted over an extended period to give a mild and refreshing brown-rice flavor and fragrance.
